com/watch?v=hct0ZZUohWkHello and welcome to GadgetGuideUSA.
Thanks for tuning in.
I’m Stephen Kowalski and I’ll be yourgadget guide today as we explore the Minix Neo X8-H Plus which is essentially a mediahub for Android.
In addition to that we also will be talkingabout the Minix A2 Lite which is a wireless air mouse for Android devices and Window devices.
I bought it as a package.
Both of them together but the Neo A2 Litedoesn’t necessarily come with the X8-H Plus.
It’s just the package that I happened tobuy.
So first we’re going to talk about the MinixNeo X8-H Plus.
Let’s go ahead and get started.
As you can see this is the retail box thatit was shipped to me in.
It’s a good looking box for what that’sworth.
Of course it has all your standard…it showsyou some of the benefits and some of the features of buying this device.
XBMC is one of the notable things.
4K is something I’d like to note.
I actually haven’t seen this displayed in4K but it says it’s capable but we’ll get to some of that.
It also goes down some of the specs and ifyou’d like an updated spec sheet of course always check the end of my videos.
Not only is this video going to have the listedspecs it’s also going to have some of the specs I pulled up using benchmarks from theapp store, 22, and maybe a couple others.
We’ll see how deep I go into that.
Of course if you’re interested in that checkthe end of the video.
I’m going to hide the Neo A2 Lite rightnow because that’s not really part of the package.
But essentially what was inside the box wasof course the Minix.
And this is a pretty neat little box.
It has quite a few ports there.
Of course you have your Ethernet port forinternet.
It also came with this Wi-Fi antenna.
I currently have it hooked up over Wi-Fi rightnow because I didn’t have an Ethernet cord available but of course I would prefer thatif possible but of course you have your Ethernet cord for internet connection.
Of course you see the power supply pluggedin.
That came with it.
This is one of my own USB drives.
It has some movies and things like that onit.
And this is actually a USB device for theNeo A2 Lite.
This does not come with the box but I haveit plugged in anyway.
You can see it has an optical audio out, yourHDMI plug and that’s what I had it plugged into.
You saw me unplug it.
Apparently it has a little reset button.
It’s one of those little pins for recover.
It has your microSD slot and it has a 3rdUSB port.
So that’s a total of 3 USB ports.
There’s actually 4 but we’ll get to that.
And it has some other plugins for microphone, headset and of course you can see that’s the power button there.
I don’t want to press that because I’mcurrently downloading some games.
So what I was talking about you can see the3…I have two currently USB ports taken.
You have a 3rd USB port here and your 4thUSB port here it says OTG which is for…it stands for USB on the go and that’s justan overcomplicated way of dealing with the slave/master system but the end result isthat you can plug this you can see it has a female USB and a micro USB.
Essentially you plug that right in to theOTG port and you get a 4th USB port which is also it’s actually a USB OTG port soyou can plug in devices to act as USB drives and things like that.
If you’d like to be more technical of courseyou can always look at the Wikipedia page for USB OTG or USB on the go.
It also comes with an instruction manual.
I think it had 8 languages.
So it has German, English, it looks like ithas some Chinese.
I think that’s Russian.
I’m not really up on my foreign language.
I suppose I could Google Translate it butthere’s too many languages for me to go through them all.
The instructions are pretty easy to understand.
They don’t go too in depth into any of thedevices.
Obviously these Android TV boxes are madefor somebody with some tech skills so if you’re not very technically coordinated I wouldn’trecommend and Android box because there is some setup required in order to use all thefeatures.
To use XBMC and to get everything you need…toget everything you want out of this box it requires some technical savvy.
Of course if you’re just using it to watchYouTube videos and watch Netflix and maybe HBO Go and things like that so this box wouldprobably get you done but to really get all the features out of it you’re really goingto have to have some technical knowhow.
It came with a Minix product brochure whichis just kind of like a little mini commercial about some of their other devices.
And then it comes with an additional microUSB to USB chord.
I didn’t have any use for this.
As you can see it’s still wrapped in theplastic but I imagine somebody will so there it is.
This is the stock remote that comes with theMinix.
It will do everything you need.
As you can see you can go up, down, left, right and ok.
You can go back.
You can turn the volume up and down.
You go home and get into the settings menus.
But this remote is really limited.
One of the benefits to having an Android TVbox though is that there’s actually 100’s of absolutely free Android remotes on theapp store.
So you just get on the app store and get someof the Android remotes and you can actually control this box using your phone.
That can be handy.
It’s not the greatest.
Of course there’s always some limitationsthere but really it is totally possible just to control the box with your phone and itis actually really handy.
I was kind of impressed with some of the options.
But remember there are limits.
To get the most out of your Minix what you’regoing to need to do is pick up this Neo A2 Lite.
Like I said I bought it in a package but itdoesn’t necessarily come that way.
I would definitely recommend it and then theNeo A2 Lite is a wireless air mouse and I’ll show you exactly what an air mouse does.
Essentially what it does is it pretends tobe a mouse.
You push this button right here and a littlecursor appears on the screen and like I said we’ll detail more of that more.
But just to compare these 2 remotes like Isaid I wouldn’t use the Android box with the stock remote.
I definitely lie the air mouse feature andit does have all your features.
Your home.
Your settings.
Your back.
Your enter.
This right here is what makes the air mousego away and when you disable the air mouse it actually becomes a gyro.
So you can actually when you’re playingsay Android games, I’m going to show you Asphalt 8 here in a minute, you actually canturn using this.
Kind of like a Wii remote or something likethat.
It’s touch sensitive.
Like I said it has gyroscopes built in.
You also have your play, your fast forwardand your rewind buttons.
You have your volume up and down and you canautomatically go to your apps.
And another thing that I really like aboutthe Neo A2 Lite is the fact that you flip it right around and the other side has nota full keyboard but a keyboard enough where you can do internet searches.
You can search on YouTube and things likethat so when you want to watch a GadgetGuideUSA video you can type in GadgetGuideUSA and getright there and get quick.
You don’t have to worry about clicking toomuch.
There’s still a keyboard available kindof like when you’re using Android phones.
When you click on a field using this remotea screen pops up where you can scroll up and down and click keys one at a time.
It is a very time consuming process so ifyou’re planning on doing any searching or any internet browsing or any YouTubing whatsoeverI would definitely recommend this Neo A2 Lite mouse.
It really wasn’t that expensive.
I was pretty impressed with the price andwhat the availability is.
So the next phase we’re actually going tozoom in on the actual Minix screen.
Minix has their own operating system.
It’s a version of Android they call Metro.
It shows some special tiles and we’ll goahead and get more familiar with that and begin exploring that.
What we see here is the Minix Metro whichis essentially Minix’s own version of Android built specifically for their set top boxes.
So you might notice some familiarities withAndroid but of course the screen you’re seeing now is pretty much a proprietarilyMinix.
